![]() ![]() ![]() With its shoulder stock and 32-round drum, the Artillery Luger was a truly capable 9mm. Using the C-93 Borchardt as a starting point, Luger crafted the improved Parabellum pistol that he successfully patented in 1898. Uncle Sam had little interest in the complex and finicky Borchardt gun, but Herr Luger came home with their documented criticisms prepared to do better. While in the employ of Ludwig, Loewe, and Company, Georg travelled to the United States in 1894 to demonstrate the radical Borchardt-Selbstladepistole C-93 to the U.S. This awakened a latent gift for firearms design. ![]() Luger volunteered for military service in 1867 and found that he had a knack for marksmanship. Georg Johann Luger was born in 1849 in Steinach am Brenner, Tyrol, and raised in Italy. The Artillery Luger Lange Pistole 08 was an adapted version of the standard P.08 Parabellum pistol designed for close combat applications. But we must not forget about Georg Luger. And you might have heard of a certain fellow named John Moses Browning. Kalashnikov made a few rifles, while Stoner’s radical black gun has ably served American troops for more than half a century. We know that only DWM was the weapons firm to do this into 19 and this Luger, without any export marks, final acceptance proofs for both Erfurt and commercial marks makes it a very unusual and collectible gun.Certain names are indelibly burned into the foundations of the modern gun world. With this gun dated 1917 and the front mortised to receive a leaf sight when Erfurt shut down all the parts were there to rebuild this 1917 in an 800mm pistol before the imposition of the Treaty of Versailles barrel length limitation. The sight is an 800 meter marked sight with the last two digits of the serial number. Were the Erfurt parts moved to DWM for assembly The circle N might be the indicator.Ībove Right: Original grips are finely cut diamond shaped checkering. On the side rail of the receiver is a Crown RC again indicating this Erfurt was assembled by the factory after the war.Ībove Right: We find the Circle N in the locking well which was a commercial proof found in the 20s guns built by DWM. The order was then given to stamp 1920 on all the guns bough in by the Disarming Law and so became the Double-Date Parabellums we seek today. This began the disarming of the German people, paving the way for seizing all the private weapons. There was no formal military stand down or demobilization everyone just went home any way they could, armed. The Germans had six hours to sign the cessation of warfare and 14 days to evacuate the lands outside Germany plus Alsace-Lorraine or be taken prisoner. ![]()
